OPAQUE DRIVE

The Optimized Pedal Partner For Every Amplifier

Using an overdrive pedal to add additional grit to an amplifier is a holy tradition in blues, metal, and rock & roll. However, a diverse amplifier collection can cause one to lose their minds (and precious pedalboard real estate) finding the perfect pedals to drive each amplifier. High-gain metal amplifiers need a pedal to tighten up their low-end response, British rock monsters need significant front-end saturation for screaming solos, and vintage clean amps can always benefit from a pleasant bit of stompbox grit. After fruitless searching for a single overdrive that checked all of these boxes, I decided to build my own, which not only could accomplish all these sounds, but could do it all without changing the pedal settings.

This is the ultimate set-and-forget, do-it-all overdrive for amp lovers.

Description

The Opaque Drive houses two independent overdrive circuits: Silver & Gold. Either is capable of handling all the roles mentioned above on its own, but they are separate designs intended to complement each other and offer players an entirely new dimension of flexibility.

Silver focuses on your guitar’s frequency voicing so you can dial in as much low end punch and upper mid-range bite as you want. It has a single, amp-like distortion flavor that preserves your transients instead of compressing them down like most overdrives. Gold offers a sampler of different distortion flavors and a more traditional tone control, which allows it to fulfill a variety of roles. Together, any overdrive sound from a clean boost to a doomer-style distortion can be found within these two, stackable circuits. Both circuits are as loud as you will ever need, but careful engineering ensures minimal noise.
